Michigan Community Leaders Praise Gary Peters’ Bipartisan Record

Non-partisan Lugar Center Ranks Gary 3rd Most Bipartisan Democrat and 12th Most Bipartisan Senator in 116th Congress

After being named the 3rd most bipartisan Democrat and 12th most bipartisan Senator in the first year of the 116th Congress, Michiganders from across the state came together to praise U.S. Senator Gary Peters for his work in reaching across the aisle to pass legislation that puts Michigan first.

The Bipartisan Index, produced by The Lugar Center and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, measures how often a member of Congress introduces bills that succeed in attracting co-sponsors from members of the other party, and how often they in turn co-sponsor a bill introduced from across the aisle.

See what Michiganders are saying about Gary’s bipartisan work:

“Michiganders are keenly aware of just how important it is that we make sure everyone has safe, clean drinking water and that our natural wonders, including the Great Lakes, are protected and preserved,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “That is why we are so appreciative of Gary Peters’ leadership and bipartisan work to secure increased funding for future Great Lakes restoration projects for the first time in a decade and for his fight to address the spread of PFAS contamination across our affected communities. His record of bringing people together speaks for itself and is producing results for the state of Michigan.”

“Throughout the time I have known Gary Peters, he has always proven to be someone who is willing to work with anyone to get results for Michigan,” said Rick Donovan, veteran from Oakland County and state legislative officer for the Polish Legion of American Veterans Department of Michigan. “Most recently, his work to unanimously pass a bipartisan bill that was signed into law to expand apprenticeship opportunities for veterans shows just how dedicated Gary is to getting things done for the people of Michigan.”

“Senator Gary Peters’ relentless efforts to protect our country’s food supply and agricultural industries at the border was an enormous win for so many in our state and country,” said Jim Byrum, Former President of the Michigan Agri-Business Association. “At a time when our politics feel divided, Gary never stops serving as an example of how to put politics aside and do what’s right for Michigan.”
