Secretary of State Ruth Johnson Continues Republicans’ Cover-Up of Bolgergate Scandal

Johnson Dismisses Bolger Complaint Five Days Before Election

LANSING – The cover-up of Speaker Jase Bolger’s plot to put a fake candidate on the ballot and file fraudulent candidate papers continues with Republican Secretary of State Ruth Johnson dismissing a complaint that Bolger and his staff carried out the plot using state resources and on state time.

“The Republican whitewash of the Bolgergate scandal continues, with Secretary of State Ruth Johnson dragging her feet on the investigation and now announcing just five days before Election Day that she is dismissing the complaint,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer. “It’s apparent Ruth Johnson conducted no investigation at all. She issued letters to Bolger and his staff months ago requesting their response. Why wait until the week before the election to announce her ‘findings’?

“Bolger’s desperation is also readily apparent, as he has convinced Governor Snyder to cut a radio spot for him and now Ruth Johnson to end her so-called ‘investigation’ this week.

“Still the grand jury investigation continues, and it remains to be seen what will emerge when Bolger has to testify on the record, rather than hiding behind Snyder, Schuette, Johnson, spokespeople and attorneys. The extent of this scandal could be far-reaching with prominent Lansing lobbyists and party officials involved.”
