Public Deserves to Know Which Special Interests Are Helping Bolger
LANSING – The Michigan Democratic Party has filed a complaint against Speaker Jase Bolger for violations of Michigan’s Legal Defense Fund Act, which requires elected officials under criminal investigation to disclose publicly any contributions and donors to their legal defense.
“Speaker Bolger has retained legal counsel in connection with the Bolgergate Kent County and grand jury investigations,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer. “However, Bolger has refused to reveal who is paying his legal bills. Under the Legal Defense Fund Act, Bolger should have filed a Statement of Organization for his legal defense fund within 10 days of receiving his first contribution and since filed quarterly reports. The people deserve to know which Lansing special interests and wealthy donors are paying to help keep Bolger out of jail and in power in Lansing.”
A one-person grand jury is currently investigating House Speaker Jase Bolger, Rep. Roy Schmidt and others for recruiting fake candidate Matt Mojzak to run against Schmidt, helping Mojzak to file a fraudulent candidate affidavit and then covering up their involvement in the scheme.
