Hard-Hitting Mailers Rally Voters in 76th House District
LANSING – Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer today called on Democratic primary voters in the 76th House District to support Winnie Brinks, who is challenging party-switcher Rep. Roy Schmidt, and write in her name for the Aug. 7 primary.
“Roy Schmidt tried to take away voters’ choice when he switched parties at the last minute,” Brewer said. “We need to get Winnie Brinks on the ballot, so voters have a real choice — between someone who will stand up for Michigan’s middle class versus a career politician who will stand up only for himself.”
Voters in the 76th House District will receive an instructional mailer this week that explains write-in procedures for the Aug. 7 primary.
It also details how Schmidt switched parties to run as a Republican on the filing deadline, the same day Matt Mojzak, a friend of Schmidt’s nephew, filed to run as his Democratic opponent. Mojzak has since withdrawn, and the Michigan State Police have launched an investigation into attempted election fraud.
One mailer includes the following tagline: “Roy Schmidt broke his word and our trust. The only way to fix it is to send someone new to Lansing.”
