MIGOP Favorite Candidate Romney Visits Michigan
MIGOP openly favors Romney
LANSING- As GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney visits Michigan today, Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) Chair Mark Brewer pointed out that the MIGOP openly favors Romney over other Republican candidates. MIGOP Chair Saul Anuzis is under fire from party members for trying to change MIGOP presidential nominating rules to favor Mitt Romney. Despite the controversy surrounding the MIGOP nominating convention, Anuzis recently hired a Romney paid political consultant, Bill Nowling, to act as MIGOP communications director. Anuzis’ biased actions break his own re-election campaign promise to remain “neutral” in the GOP Presidential nominating process.
“It is not surprising that Anuzis and the MIGOP would take sides in the GOP presidential primary despite his own re-election oath to stay neutral,” Brewer said. “Romney is an obvious choice for the MIGOP and the Bush family – he has long been a supporter of the Iraq war and supports Bush’s unfair trade and economic policies. The MIGOP loves candidates who were CEO’s of companies that cut jobs in America and created jobs overseas. If you like Dick DeVos then you’ll love Mitt Romney.”
Anuzis pledged in his re-election as MRP chair "As we go through the Presidential process, I believe it’s critical to have someone who is neutral and can help hold the party together. I have been clear to everyone that I intend to stay neutral and that it would be beneficial to have a State Chairman who could help keep the party together during the upcoming Presidential campaigns."
Bill Nowling was Director of Media Relations for GOP consultants, the Sterling Corporation. According to Romney’s recent FEC documents, Romney’s campaign has already paid the Sterling Corporation tens of thousands of dollars for in-state communications consulting. According to the Weekly Standard, Romney’s “Michigan campaign is being run by the Sterling Corporation, a political consulting firm in Lansing and the Yobs' chief competition as political consultants.” Nowling has written many pro-Romney and anti-McCain posts on his blog, the Lunchbucket Conservative. MIRS has reported that the Brownback campaign is upset with Anuzis’ proposed rule changes for the potential nominating convention because they favored Romney’s campaign. Rep. Candice Miller also came out against Anuzis’ rule changes on behalf of the Giuliani campaign.
Romney was a key player in a company that cut American jobs and outsourced jobs elsewhere. Bain Capital, a company that Romney founded, invests in a company that assists companies in outsourcing jobs to China and India. According to a 2003 Boston Business Journal article, “Bain Capital, an investor in E5, also hired the company to work on an internal business management system that Bain would have previously done with a combination of in-house IT staff and outsourcing to a local developer.”
According to USA Today, Romney calls Bush’s surge strategy in Iraq “the right course.”
