Walberg Brings Controversial House Republican Leader for Fundraiser

LANSING- Today Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer criticized Republican Congressman Tim Walberg for holding a Lansing fundraiser featuring controversial U.S. House Republican Leader Rep. John Boehner.

“It’s no surprise that Tim Walberg would bring in Representative Boehner, who like Walberg, has continuously rubber-stamped President Bush’s failed Iraq strategy and disastrous economic policies,” said Brewer. “But it is surprising that Walberg would want Boehner in Michigan on the heels of an accusation that the Republican House Leader leaked classified information and jeopardized national security.”

According to the Washington Post, Boehner disclosed classified elements of a federal intelligence court's decision in remarks he recently made to Fox News. Boehner revealed that the court secretly declared a key element of the Bush administration's wiretapping efforts illegal. Two government officials confirmed that his remarks concerned classified information.

Walberg is holding the fundraiser after a weak fundraising quarter in which Democratic candidates out-raised him $215,000 to $119,000.
