Anuzis Meddles in Republican Primary - Again
Anuzis breaks own election oath by trying to bar candidate Ron Paul from GOP debates
LANSING- As Michigan Republican Party (MRP) Chair Saul Anuzis circulates a petition among Republican National Committee members “to bar Congressman Ron Paul” from future GOP Presidential debates because “he does not represent the base,” Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) Chair Mark Brewer pointed out that when Anuzis meddles in GOP Presidential debates he breaks his own re-election campaign promise to remain “neutral” in the GOP Presidential nominating process.
“Since Anuzis is willing to break his pledge of remaining neutral in the GOP Presidential nominating process, we suggest that he apply his ‘represent the GOP base’ standard to Rudy McRomney next,” Brewer said. “When he does, he will have to demand that Giuliani, McCain and Romney also be barred from future Presidential debates because Ron Paul better represents the GOP base than any of them.”
Giuliani on:
Choice - “I’m pro-choice.”
Gay Rights – “I’m pro-gay rights”
McCain on:
Choice - Voted yes on allowing partial birth abortions.
Gay Rights: Called the ban on same-sex marriage "un-Republican."
Romney on:
Choice - "… as governor of the commonwealth, I will protect a woman's right to choose..”
Gay Rights - Believes domestic partnership status should be recognized in a way that includes the potential for health benefits and rights of survivorship.
”On these issues and many others, Giuliani, McCain and Romney are out-of-step with the extremist GOP based,” Brewer observed. “We are waiting for Anuzis to call for them to be barred from future GOP debates.”
Gongwer reported yesterday that Anuzis wanted the RNC to “do an ‘American Idol’ vote to thin out the field beginning with Mr. Paul,” but Anuzis pledged in his re-election as MRP chair "As we go through the Presidential process, I believe it’s critical to have someone who is neutral and can help hold the party together. I have been clear to everyone that I intend to stay neutral and that it would be beneficial to have a State Chairman who could help keep the party together during the upcoming Presidential campaigns."
