Radio Ad Highlights Walberg’s Allegiance to Bush Rather Than Constituents
Walberg ignores skyrocketing foreclosures, gas prices, education, supports tax breaks and bail-outs for Big Oil and Wall Street
LANSING— Republican Rep. Tim Walberg spent his first year in Congress voting in lockstep with the Bush Administration rather than responding to the needs of the people he represents, according to a radio ad released this past week by American United for Change, an independent group dedicated to telling the truth about issues important to working Americans.
“From health care to jobs to the war in Iraq, Tim Walberg has always chosen the Bush policy whether or not that’s the best policy for the people he represents,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer. “Walberg has chosen Wall Street bailouts over mortgage help on Main Street, tax breaks for Big Oil rather than funding for green energy jobs, and tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans rather than keeping higher education and health care affordable. And, he continues to ship more and more troops to Iraq while refusing to hold Bush accountable for progress the lack of on the ground.”
The 30 second spot airing in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District ad calls Walberg and Bush “two peas in a pod,” and that description could not be more accurate. While Walberg supports the Bush Administration’s corporate welfare policies, he has done nothing to address the pocketbook issues critical to the people he represents. Wages have remained stagnant during Bush’s presidency, and health care and higher education costs have skyrocketed. Republicans supported the Federal Reserve’s bailout of Wall Street investment bank Bear Stearns, yet Walberg and his Republican colleagues do nothing to fix the mortgage crisis here at home.
“Bush’s policies on trade, health care, and war have severely hurt Michigan, yet Walberg continues to vote in lockstep with Bush and the right-wing of the Republican Party,” said Brewer. “It’s clear Walberg is completely out of touch with the needs of the people he represents.”
