Recall Groups Targeting Dillon, Corriveau Violate State Law
Out-of-state group fails to tell citizens who is holding its purse strings
LANSING – The out-of-state extremist group attempting to recall Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Township) and State Rep. Marc Corriveau (D-Northville) has violated state law by refusing to reveal who paid for a letter mailed to citizens.
The Michigan Democratic Party has filed a complaint with Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land and called on her to investigate the violation.
"The citizens deserve to know who's paying for these divisive, costly recall campaigns that are going to cost Wayne County families tens of thousands of dollars by the end of the day," MDP Chair Mark Brewer said. "The Secretary of State must investigate this violation. She must hold this out-of-state group pursuing a narrow, extremist agenda accountable and make sure they play by the rules."
According to state law, the group targeting Dillon and Corriveau violated MCL Section 169.247, which requires that all printed political communications identify who paid for materials as well as the person or group's address. The mailings from the recall group did not say who paid for the letter, a clear violation of state law.
