Dear Friends,

On Tuesday night, something amazing happened in Lansing.  Democratic and Republican legislators from all over the state and every part of the political spectrum stood together with Governor Granholm as she laid out a bold plan for Michigan’s future.  In the midst of bleak headlines about a looming national recession and home foreclosure rates reaching an all time high, Wednesday morning’s newspapers were filled with messages of hope for the governor’s aggressive strategy to revive Michigan’s economy and the bipartisan cooperation that will make her plan a reality.

Now, the hard work begins.

If we are going to protect the Michigan way of life in this changing world, we need to focus on what matters most.  A job for every worker.  Education for every child and training for every citizen.  Health care for every family.  And safe places to live and work for all of us.  These are the right priorities to ensure that Michigan can successfully transition to the 21st century economy and that Michigan citizens have the tools they need to succeed in that economy.  And, in her state of the State Address on Tuesday night, the governor outlined the steps we must take to get us there.

She introduced new tools for aggressively creating and attracting jobs, for growing a new alternative energy industry to replace lost manufacturing jobs, for improving education for every child, and for protecting citizens’ pocketbooks.  She also called for a Michigan stimulus package to immediately create construction and other jobs, and pushed for a new renewed commitment to getting Michigan workers the training they need to transition into new jobs.

These efforts are built on the foundation that Governor Granholm has created with job-creating initiatives like the 21st Century Jobs Fund that is diversifying our economy and the Jobs Today program that is putting people to work across the state.  And with these new tools in place, Michigan now has the most aggressive job creation effort in the nation.  And none of them will require any new taxes or fees to pay for them.

If we are to succeed in a changing world, Michigan must answer the governor’s call for bipartisan unity and work together to create opportunity for every Michigan citizen.  Democrat or republican – above all else, we are Michiganders and we want to see our state thrive.  Whether you are passionate about politics or have never given it much thought, please take a few minutes to visit JenniferGranholm.com/updates and sign up for email updates right now.  Things are changing in Lansing.  State government leaders are ready to put aside their differences and work together to fight for Michigan’s future.  You can be a part of it, too.  Visit JenniferGranholm.com/updates to sign up for email updates and join one of the most important periods in Michigan’s history.  Today, Michigan fights for a better tomorrow.  Together.
