DeVos Seeks to Land His Chinese Helicopter Near Mansion

DeVos puts personal convenience ahead of his neighbors

LANSING-Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer commented today on former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos’ latest failure to relate to the people of Michigan.  In this instance it revolves around his attempt to force Ada Township to let him land his Chinese helicopter near his mansion.

“While it may be common practice for billionaires to want to have a heliport next to their mansion, this flies in the face of the problems confronting people in Michigan,” Brewer said.  “Republican policies are responsible for the economic problems we face from unfair trade policies to the home foreclosure disaster, yet DeVos is only concerned about parking his Chinese helicopter closer to his mansion.”

“While it is nice that DeVos has now added helicopters to his toy collection, it is troubling that this likely Republican candidate for Governor in 2010 is so out of touch with the important issues facing our country and state,” Brewer stated.  “DeVos’ actions typify what is wrong with the Republican Party.”

Numerous news stories have documented DeVos’ attempts to convince Ada Township that it is a good idea to allow him to have his way on his helipad. DeVos has no problem with the fact that the flight path of his helicopter would go over three area schools.

An ironic twist to this story is the helicopter that DeVos flies.  Instead of flying an American-made helicopter it appears that DeVos is once again investing in China.

“First DeVos invests his Amway money to create jobs in China instead of investing in Michigan and now he is flying across Michigan in a Chinese helicopter,” Brewer added. “Despite his landslide repudiation by Michigan voters in 2006, DeVos still doesn’t get it.”
