Huckabee Not Ready for the Job
Brewer: We can’t handle another four years of presidential incompetence
LANSING—Governor Mike Huckabee (R-Arkansas) might be moving up in the polls, but his understanding of the issues facing Michigan citizens has not kept pace. Huckabee’s numerous ethics violations, flip-flops on tax policy positions, and leadership of a state with some of the worst health and jobs records in the country point to a candidate who is not ready to take on the challenges of the office of President.
“It’s clear that Huckabee doesn’t have the skills or knowledge to bring the change our state needs in order to grow jobs and increase access to quality health care,” said Mark Brewer, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “Huckabee’s record as a governor is disappointing. We can only expect his record as President to be worse.”
As Governor of Arkansas, Huckabee developed a poor record on issues important to Michigan voters. Health care, economic growth and education all suffered under his leadership. Huckabee faces ethics challenges as well. During this tenure as an elected official, Huckabee was convicted of ethics violations five times. More than once, he received “letters of warning” accompanied by fines for accepting gifts from lobbyists. His staff also has ties to the Jack Abramoff.
“Voters are looking for a president they can trust to bring change to Washington,” said Brewer. “Huckabee’s hands are clearly in the pockets of the big-time lobbyists who have controlled our government for too long.”
